Sewing Your Long Nursing Dress: Fabric & Supplies

Fabric

Fabric: Ideally, choose a fluid material such as cotton voile or viscose.

Required yardage for fabric with a width of 140 cm (55"):

Sizes 34 to 44: 165 cm (≈ 1.8 yards).

Sizes 46 to 54: 330 cm (≈ 3.6 yards).

Supplies

• 1 meter (≈ 1.1 yards) of bias tape, 4 cm wide (≈ 1 5/8")
• 2 or 4 Prym 8mm sew-on snaps (2 for sizes 34 to 40 / 4 for sizes 42 to 54)
• 16 cm (≈ 6 1/4") of cotton twill tape
• 1 elastic band, 7 mm wide (≈ 1/4") — see table below for the length

How to sew your long nursing dress?

Never used a PDF pattern before?
Don’t worry — it’s super easy!

• Download your pattern
  Once you place your order, you’ll immediately receive an email with a link to download your Sophie dress pattern and its tutorial.
• Print your pattern
  Print the pattern, making sure “Actual size” is selected in your printer settings.
  Use the Test Square on the first page to check that the scale is correct and your pattern is the right size.
• Cut out your pattern
  Grab your favorite scissors and trim the page edges so you can easily assemble the pattern sheets.
  Handy little scissors printed on the pattern show you exactly where to cut (and where *not* to!) — for a stress-free assembly!
• Assemble your pattern
  Just tape the sheets together, following the layout guide.
  The trimmed borders from the previous step serve as overlap zones for taping the pages together.

  Pro tip: Tape along the outer edges of the pattern pieces. Once cut out, they’ll be much sturdier!

• Let the tutorial guide you
  The illustrated tutorial walks you through each step of sewing your nursing dress.
